Aviation Planning  ....................................................................................................................................................................................................

Aviation Planning is charged with establishing a viable, balanced, and integrated statewide system of public-use airports by studying the performance and interaction of the entire aviation system in Georgia. The statewide Aviation System Plan is an on-going planning process that identifies system needs; evaluates costs, surveys, studies, and standards; and makes recommendations to assure the aviation system, both general and commercial, will meet the current and future needs of Georgia.

Aviation Planning provides technical assistance to city and county airport sponsors and private entities in preparation of Airport Master Plans, Airport Layout Plans, obstruction surveys, pavement management studies, and air service studies for all open to the public airports in Georgia.

Aviation Planning conducts biannual airport inspections for Georgia Airport Licensing requirements, and the Federal Aviation Administration’s (FAA) Airport Safety Data Program for 94 public use airports in Georgia. State law requires all public use airports to have a Georgia Airport License.

Aviation Planning publishes the Georgia Airport Directory and the Georgia Aeronautical chart annually.
